The reefs surrounding Matemo Island are plentiful, offering a spectacular array of fish and coral.
Fish found at the Reefs around Matemo Island
1. Napoleon Wrasse Reef
Fish species found include the following : Moorish idols Epaulette surgeonfish Red fire goby Bullethead parrotfish Goldbar wrasse Humbug damsel Bicolor puller/chocolate dip Copper sweeper Threadfin butterflyfish Saddleback butterflyfish Madagascar butterflyfish Royal angelfish Emperor angelfish Shaded batfish Yellowback fusilier Manylined fusilier Coral grouper Lionfish Napoleon wrasse
Most of the reef runs along the edge of a drop-off from 26m to 40m. There are many schools of fish, and fan corals can be found from about 35m and deeper.
2. Marlique Reef

Two small reefs divided by about 20m of sand. Swimming from the first reef of about 27m to the second (24m), massive sea cucumbers and starfish can be found.
3. Unicorn's reef

A long reef of about 200m in length and 14m wide. Rich in various types of coral and fish. The whole reef runs along the edge of the drop-off found on the north-eastern side of Matemo.
4. Rolas

A shallow water dive on the south-eastern side of Rolas. The depth ranges from 3m to 7m, and consists of mainly juvenile fish species.Many scattered rocks and sand patches are found here along with clams, sea urchins and various species of corals.
