Sport Fishing : Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique
The Pemba region is one of the prime fishing hot spots anywhere. The main focus is on the Quirimbas Archipelago - a string of islands beginning about 60 km north of Pemba and continuing almost to the Tanzanian border 250 km north - with shallow water amongst the islands but very deep channels close inshore, resulting in unbelievable fishing.
Quirimbas Fishing Locations
Fishing from the mainland, in front of the Pemba Resort is good due to the tidal conditions, however, it is the islands and reefs of the unexplored Quirimbas Archipelago that offers exceptional fishing locations. The nearby St Lazarus Banks is one of the only places where marlin is known to breed, and the islands of Matemo and Medjumbe offer spectacular fishing where bonefish, big kings, greater barracuda, tuna, cuta, wahoo, dorado, marlin and sailfish abound.
